The lovely Claire looking very happy with her hamper from Out of Yorkshire!
We once again want to thank them for supporting the campaign this year!! For great local products and delicious gifts please visit their website: www.outofyorkshire.co.uk/ (We've already visited and purchased a yummy gift for a friend, so hard to choose though!)
Just
a few words from the winner of our competition, Claire...
“It takes a bit more effort to visit several
suppliers but it is also lots of fun and teaches the kids there are great
alternatives to supermarkets. They are certainly enjoying devouring the
contents of my beautiful hamper from Out of Yorks, the chocolate oat crumbles
are a particular favourite! Thanks to Local4lent for pioneering such a cracking
campaign.
Sadly, no matter how much I'd like to, I think it's
nigh-on impossible for a working mum to avoid supermarkets altogether (there
just aren't enough hours in the day!).
But whenever possible, (and particularly for Lent!),
I try to support local businesses and markets not only because is it a
much more satisfying (and calmer) shopping experience but because the food
quality and taste is so much better!
As a family we love to pop to see Tony our local
butcher in Brookwood as he knows the kids and his mince beef and sausages are
out of this world! We often go to Woking fruit and veg market as the produce is
amazing and such great value too! There is also a new deli called Seasons in
Woking which does great coffee, cakes and cheeses - Sainsbury's cafe just
doesn't compare!
I hope to carry this principle on when I open my
gift shop 'Two Ducks', I want customers to enjoy the shopping experience, know
the story of the craftspeople supplying the products and making it worth that
little extra trip!
Thanks
and thanks again for the hamper!”
